It's our last day -- bumma



Today rained and rained and rained. We tried to go to a national park, but the route the girl told us about was 4 hours round trip. Then she told us about hot springs, and we decided to go there. I think the 4 hour walk would have been better. The place was called "simbiosis" and it was very disappointing. It was $20 each to get in and there were dry saunas, mud and very muddy hot spring pools. I just couldn't do it. I wonder what was living under the muck. Supposedly the water came from a hot spring that was mixed with river water, but YUCK! The other three were much braver than me and they sat in the muck while I got bit by mosquitoes..... fun! To their credit though, the place did give me my $20 back since I didn't use any of the facilities. On our way out of the place, we followed the signs the thermal pools at Rio Nigro. Bubba and Tom walked down there and said it was much better, cleaner and only $5 each to get in. Live and learn.
We found a gem of a place to eat supper on our way back to the time share. We drove by Panama Beach and stopped at this little place called "the beach club" What a find. The food was great, it was right on the beach and there were even stray dogs to entertain us. It's heartbreaking to see all the strays, but they all look like they eat well at least.
We are leaving in the morning, so I should go pack and go to sleep. Speaking of dogs, I should see mine on Sunday!!!

Shipshewana, IN

Today we went to the Amish town of Shipshewana. It always seems odd to see horse drawn black buggies driving along the streets with all the cars and trucks. The town has a small central area that is full of shops. You could buy a quilt in any color of the rainbow, and some of them do have all the colors. They are kind of pricey, but if you think about how much energy it must take to make such an intricate work of art without electricity, can be just mind boggling. Furniture is another big one here, but it won't fit under the seat on the airplane. Today was Len's 70th birthday. Happy birthday Len! It's hard to believe I have a 70 year old brother! Well, we're leaving tomorrow, so it's off to bed....

Oasis of the Seas

Yes, we are on vacation again.   This is day 2 of a week long cruise around the Caribbean.  Today was an "at sea" day, so for me that meant a lot of sleeping.  There are a lot of pools on this ship, but we couldn't find any shade, I can't spend more than a few minutes in the sun without hearing my skin start to sizzle.  We went to a midnight comedy show, and it was extremely funny..... The first headliner's luggage got lost, and of course he was on the big D..... His favorite line.... What does delta stand for? Don't Expect Luggage To Arrive.  You have to admit, it is kind of catchy.  Tomorrow we go to Haiti, that could be interesting.  They say there is a very large fence between RC's property and the island itself...... Hmmmmm.  Time to go to sleep 1:34am......

More time driving and finally in the North

Wednesday we started our drive towards the North.  Again it was really long.  The scenery is beautiful everywhere.  We saw lots of sheep and cows and even a few horses and donkeys.  Even though it is still nippy, the grass is incredibly green every where.  We finally made it to Balina.  Len has a friend who lives a town away, so there was a reason for this stop.  We met his friend who he has known for over 50 years, then they went to eat and the three of us roamed around the very tiny town.  We had drinks at a pub called Dillon's in hope of finding some live music, but to no avail. It's off season still and the music is only on the weekends.  Thursday we drove to where Len's friend, Fr. Steve, works.  It's a nice retreat house and very busy.  They have programs almost everyday.  We didn't stay long, and continued our long drive north.   We made it to Portrush finally around supper time.  We ate at a place called the B...
