Costa Rica Day2





Well, It's actually the morning of the 3rd day, and we are sitting by the pool (hiding from the sun.) The weather this morning is beautiful and we just saw a plume of smoke shoot out of the volcano. What a sight! This hotel is absolutely incredible. There are a lot of tropical plants and flowers, and the humming birds are everywhere. One even flew so close to Bubba's head that he could feel the breeze from it's wings! We are having a great time.
Yesterday we drove down here from Coco Beach, it took a few hours, but no one was really counting. We got here when the sun was still out and found the hotel, Volcano Lodge and Gardens-- as i said before it's beautiful! We went to a volcano viewing spot, and sat in the pitch black jungle waiting for hours for something to happen, but this isn't Disney and it doesn't erupt on cue. Walking back in the dark was interesting, yes, it's only 5 minutes, but 5 minutes in a dark jungle with an ipod (we're such city people) and a tiny flash light for light is not fun! But, Tracey has another opinion of it! Oh, did i mention it was also raining and we had to walk over a hanging bridge in the dark???

Shipshewana, IN

Today we went to the Amish town of Shipshewana. It always seems odd to see horse drawn black buggies driving along the streets with all the cars and trucks. The town has a small central area that is full of shops. You could buy a quilt in any color of the rainbow, and some of them do have all the colors. They are kind of pricey, but if you think about how much energy it must take to make such an intricate work of art without electricity, can be just mind boggling. Furniture is another big one here, but it won't fit under the seat on the airplane. Today was Len's 70th birthday. Happy birthday Len! It's hard to believe I have a 70 year old brother! Well, we're leaving tomorrow, so it's off to bed....

Barbados

Again we started the day not really knowing what we wanted to do, but we had read about George Washington's House and thought that might be interesting. We went out for the day with Judy and Ben and got our own taxi tour.  It was nice that it was just the four of us, but the driver/tour guide was hard to understand.  He tried his hardest though.  It was $25 each and we ended at Washington's house.  It was a nice take.  He lived on Barbados for a few months when he was 19 and was trying to find a cure for his older 1/2 brother's TB. There are tunnels underneath the compound that were installed long after Washington's stay.  They were built for drainage and only rediscovered 5 years ago. It was an interesting tour.  Today is our last day and it's a day at sea.  I'm tired and I miss my dogs, but it's snowing right now at home, so I guess 80 degree weather is pretty nice. Let's see if we get on a plane tomorrow.

Puerto Rico, here we come!

I don't remeber exactly why we picked Puerto Rico for this trip, but so far it was a good choice. We got on the first flights we tried, we fly standby with my job, and got here in time for lunch Saturday afternoon. The one disapointment we've run into was with the car rental. We rented from EZ, which we do frequently in Florida, but this was horrible. We waited over 1/2 an hour for the shuttle bus, even though the office was under 10 minutes away, then in the office it took over two hours to get through the line. It didn't even look very busy. On top of all that we were bullied into taking the transponder for the tolls which was another $50. The agent told us that if we didn't activate it and even if we paid the tolls in cash we would still get billed for using the toll booth and at that point it would be at least $50 for each infraction! Really??? It sounded like a BS story to me, but we took it anyway. I have to send a nasty-gram to EZ to let them know how ...
