Costa Rica day 1




We just flew in yesterday, what a beautiful country! Unfortunately it poured and poured for about an hour, then it got better again.
Today we drove to Santa Rosa National Park. It's such a nice place. We saw some white throated capuchin monkeys and some red-headed wood peckers. The rain forest was great,and no rain today... what a relief!
We are having a lot of fun so far. The time share has a brick oven pizzaria on the property, and I can get wi-fi if I sit in one spot in the living room.... what more could you want?
Tomorrow we are heading to the arenal volcano. We will be there for two over nights, and then back here to the time share again. So far, Tracey has done all of the driving, which means that Bubba gets to be a tourist too... very unusual for him. Tom's with us too. It's only 8pm and they are all in bed already. We really are getting OLD!!!
Oh, one of my cameras is broken. Of course it is the one with the better zoom. That is the bad news. The good news is that I brought two cameras, and this means I GET TO BUY A NEW CAMERA when we get home.....

Shipshewana, IN

Today we went to the Amish town of Shipshewana. It always seems odd to see horse drawn black buggies driving along the streets with all the cars and trucks. The town has a small central area that is full of shops. You could buy a quilt in any color of the rainbow, and some of them do have all the colors. They are kind of pricey, but if you think about how much energy it must take to make such an intricate work of art without electricity, can be just mind boggling. Furniture is another big one here, but it won't fit under the seat on the airplane. Today was Len's 70th birthday. Happy birthday Len! It's hard to believe I have a 70 year old brother! Well, we're leaving tomorrow, so it's off to bed....

Barbados

Again we started the day not really knowing what we wanted to do, but we had read about George Washington's House and thought that might be interesting. We went out for the day with Judy and Ben and got our own taxi tour.  It was nice that it was just the four of us, but the driver/tour guide was hard to understand.  He tried his hardest though.  It was $25 each and we ended at Washington's house.  It was a nice take.  He lived on Barbados for a few months when he was 19 and was trying to find a cure for his older 1/2 brother's TB. There are tunnels underneath the compound that were installed long after Washington's stay.  They were built for drainage and only rediscovered 5 years ago. It was an interesting tour.  Today is our last day and it's a day at sea.  I'm tired and I miss my dogs, but it's snowing right now at home, so I guess 80 degree weather is pretty nice. Let's see if we get on a plane tomorrow.

Puerto Rico, here we come!

I don't remeber exactly why we picked Puerto Rico for this trip, but so far it was a good choice. We got on the first flights we tried, we fly standby with my job, and got here in time for lunch Saturday afternoon. The one disapointment we've run into was with the car rental. We rented from EZ, which we do frequently in Florida, but this was horrible. We waited over 1/2 an hour for the shuttle bus, even though the office was under 10 minutes away, then in the office it took over two hours to get through the line. It didn't even look very busy. On top of all that we were bullied into taking the transponder for the tolls which was another $50. The agent told us that if we didn't activate it and even if we paid the tolls in cash we would still get billed for using the toll booth and at that point it would be at least $50 for each infraction! Really??? It sounded like a BS story to me, but we took it anyway. I have to send a nasty-gram to EZ to let them know how ...
