Cherry blossoms

Image
Ok, since it is so very windy, a lot of the blossoms are already gone, but what's left is still beautiful. We walked around the Tidal Basin. This brought us by the Jefferson Memorial, the Roosevelt Memorial, the new Martin Luther King Memorial and finished off where we started at the Washington Monument. This really is a great city to walk around. There's so much to see and so much is free. This day cost us more to park at Logan than the rest of the day. I'll add pictures when I get home... I almost forgot, there was a park that was full of tulips in bloom, that was just an added bonus!

Glass class

Image
So, I guess we do fun stuff even when we're not on vacation. Today we took a glass blowing class at Luke Adams Glass Studio in Norwood. It was pretty cool, or maybe I should say it was pretty hot! We got hands on and made a paperweight to start, I think that was to get a feel for the glass and the weight of the pole, and probably the heat too. Then we got to pick what we wanted to make. I made a round glass ornament and Bubba made a drinking glass, or what he likes to call a beer glass. We'll see how they come out in a couple of weeks. Like all hot glass, it has to anneal over night to keep it from cracking. We can't go tomorrow because we'll be in DC to see the cherry blossoms, and next week we are going to Vegas for more glass stuff. We'll update that after it happens...

Last night of vacation

Image
As they say, all good things must come to an end, and that's what is happening way too early tomorrow. Yet another vacation will be done, but there is always the next one. The resort we are in now is dispersed up the side if a very steep hill, and I think it would be more appropriate for mountain goats, but it is nice and has a great view of playa hermossa. There is a shuttle bus around the resort, but we keep saying it is like a Disney ride, it seems to go either straight up, or straight down. There's one that has two bench seats and straps hanging from the roof to hold on to. Thank god for the straps, I just slide freely from one end to the other, it's actually a lot of fun, I just wonder how many people they have lost. Off to the airport again tomorrow and then home to the cold, it is almost spring though even if the groundhog did see it's shadow the other day!!

Costa Rica again

Image
Ok, so we are in Costa Rica again. Does that sound boring? It is so nice here and diverse that it is worth coming back to. We stayed at the Bella Vista Mar in Nosara. It is beautiful here. The road left a lot to be desired! Up the hills and mountain (it's a little mountain) lots of bumps and rocks and holes and curves, but isn't it always fun to feel your kidneys in your throat? Yesterday we drove around the area, and the beaches are beautiful. We ate at a great place on the side of the road called La Luna.... They had great pizza and brick ovens and great chips and salsa. Today we are driving to the all inclusive place, so I think we will be closer to civilization again. Hopefully they have wi fi there too.

Niagra Falls

Image
Yes, we took another over night trip. This time we are in Niagra Falls. There's a new nonstop flight from Boston to Toronto and we figured before it got popular we decided to try it. In Toronto we rented a car from Budget and drove over here, well, after getting just a title bit lost, turning ourselves back around, and then we drove over here. It is beautiful, it is also cold! The hotel we are in (radisson) has a waterfalls view, so I don't have to go out in the cold too much. Everything is super expensive here, like $18 for a burger at Friday's... Yuck! Well, actually it tasted good but who wants to spend that on a burger. They light up the falls at night, so they keep changing from pinks and blues to yellows and greens to rainbow colors. It is pretty even if it's a little tacky. We got up way too early today, so I think it's time to go to bed. We can sleep tomorrow thiough, we have a 1pm check out.

Orlando

Image
Ok, so we're sitting by the pool at the Best Western Plus in Orlando. What a great location. We are very close to Wet and Wild (not that we've gone there in years, but I'm just saying) and just down the street from Universal. No, I wouldn't want to walk there, but I think there is a shuttle. We always rent a car anyway. The place is clean, the pool is nice and there are a couple of hot tubs, nice way to spend a Sunday. We're here because we are going to the Halloween thing at universal.. It should serve to be a frightful night. More on that later. We ate at a great Mexican restaurant, AgaveAzul... Yummy! Now we have another good place to eat.

Nantucket

Image
Ok, so I haven't gotten through the whole trip from a couple of weeks ago, but we went to Nantucket today, and I wanted to reflect on the day. We had a lot of fun! We had to get up waaaaay too early, because the boat on Hy-line was at 9:20 in Hyannis, so we had to leave our house by 7 am to get there. The trip over was pretty uneventful, the weather was warm and sunny, actually in the 80's in October, I guess we can't get any better than that! We walked around the town for a little bit, then paid too much for sandwiches at Brothers of Thieves (I think that's the name,) but they were good, and the nachos were awesome. From there we walked over to the coast guard station and hung out on the beach by the lighthouse for a little while. The weather was spectacular! We couldn't have asked for anything better. We were tired from having to get up too early, but it was a great day! I think we will try the steamship authority if we go back next summer.
