Really, a tree house?
Yes, I'm staying in a tree house. This is about as close to camping as I ever want to get, and this isn't even roughing it. The house has a fridge, a bathroom with running water, and even a hot shower. There were a few bugs the first night, and a small frog, but once we got them out all was well. The place is very clean. It's surrounded by trees, and in the morning they deliver coffee for the people and fruit to attract the birds. It is very cool to watch everything land right outside our bedroom. There is a loft with two twin beds, that's where our niece is sleeping, the only draw back being that it is only accessible by a ladder in the middle of the room. She's young though, she can handle it! The drive from the coast was long, a few hours. It was raining when we got here and almost dark, so not a lot to do. No TV and no wifi, but we are surviving. We went on a nature walk at 8 pm last night, and I'm glad we did because tonight it is raining buckets. It's not even 8 and Bubba is snoring away. We saw some cool bugs, a couple of frogs, and some sleeping birds. It was pretty cool even though we didn't see a sloth.
Today we went to Mistico hanging bridges near Arenal volcano at $24 per person. That was a lot of fun. Bubba still hasn't gotten over his fear of heights, and didn't appreciate us rocking the bridges as he slowly made his way over. We saw a troop of spider monkeys, a lot of birds and bugs, but still no sloth! On our way back to the tree house we went to a wildlife place, where all their animals roam free. Sometimes I think they fence off an area, put up signs and hope something stops by. I was getting frustrated, no monkeys or sloths here, until we were leaving and one of the workers pointed out 2 sleeping sloths. Of course they were right over the parking lot! Could have saved us about $13 each had we seen them before we went in! I guess that's ok though, it's for a good cause, and Samantha found poison blue jeans frog on the side of the path, that was cool to see. We ate supper at Happyland in Santa Rosa, which is right up the street, that's when the rain started. We tried to wait it out by watching some of the Red Sox /Orioles game, I wonder who won. Since there is nothing to do, and it's still raining, I guess it's beddy by time :(
