So... Where did I leave off?

Image
Did I leave you hanging? Wednesday we took the boat and bus back to Cancun again to try to get out of Mexico.  We over nighted in a VERY basic hotel right across the street from the bus stop.  We ate at a sanborn's (the first restaurant that the menu was all in Spanish) and took the 4:30 bus to the airport, that was $6.50 per person.  At the airport, everything looked great for the 7:00 flight, then it was delayed until almost 10.... The flight attendants got in at 1:00 in the morning the night before and needed their legal rest time.... Well, the fun started there.  There was a snow storm in Atlanta on Tuesday.  I think it was 2 inches, a drop in the bucket if you live in New England, but if you live in the south, it shuts everything down including the airport and the roads that might bring you there.  So, our flight had all the right parts, flight attendants, pilots, a plane, but get this.... No gate agents.... The agents didn't get to work!!!  Can y...

A day of snorkeling

Image
We didn't do much today. Breakfast at subways, then back to the hotel's beach.  We went snorkeling along the reef under their property.  There were lots of fish to see and even one octopus. Hopefully we will go scuba diving tomorrow. We'll see how I feel.... Today wasn't a great day for my belly, maybe tomorrow will be better.  We went to supper at La Choza, it was great.  I had a vegetable kabob and bubba had an Aztec, blackened chicken.  Definitely another place worth a second visit.  We had a frozen avocado pie for dessert, it was delicious! I never even heard of it before.  Here's the bad news, the CZM to ATL flight is cancelled for tomorrow, and we are supposed to leave the next day.... What's that saying about the best laid plans?  Anyway, we'll see what happens....

What can be bad about a day above freezing?

Today started with breakfast at Jeannie's, yes the same place we went for supper last night.  It's about a 10 minute walk from the hotel, so that kind of explains the frequency.  It was good, but I'm not a big breakfast fan, so a waffle with butter was all I had.  We spent the rest of the day at the beach across the street from our hotel.  It's nice, it's clean and it wasn't crowded. The water is rough and a little on the chilly side.  There were lots of fish, so it was worth the chill.  Next time though I think I'll rent a wetsuit.  Supper was awesome! We found a place on tripadvisor called El Moro, it's a little off the beaten path, but that makes it even better.  They had all kinds of fish (Lynne had grouper with shrimp and veggies), pork (Bubba and Judy had two different kinds) and I had a cheese enchilada in a mole sauce - yum! Not only was the food great, but the waiter (Ray) was extremely friendly and informative.  His father was the o...

Day 2 in Cozumel

Image
San Gervasio Today we went to one of the Mayan ruins on the island, San Gervasio.  It was very interesting.  There was a lot of walking, and a lot of it on muddy and uneven walkways, but it was pretty cool.  We were allowed to climb on most of the buildings and really get a feel for the area.  We took a taxi from the hotel, it was $70 round trip for the four of us.  At the ruins, it was $9.50 per person to get in.  There was an option of a guide for another $20, but we didn't hire one.  There were signs and arrows to get us around easily enough, and the descriptions were in English as well as Spanish.  It took a little over an hour to see the whole place, and there were some stores.  We had the driver drop us off downtown at a restaurant he recommended.  It was very touristy, I'm sure the driver got a kickback, but it was decent food and about a three block walk to the dock.  We went through a few stores and then came back to the ho...

Modes of transport to Cozumel

Image
So another adventure begins. We (Bubba, Judy, Lynne and I) have started yet another trip together.  We are on our way to Cozumel, Mexico.  It's supposed to be warm.  Why does that matter? Well, right now it is 18 degrees at home, it's still January, so that means we have a lot more winter to trudge through.  This is a well needed break from the almost heart stopping cold.  The day started at 3:45 this morning when my alarm clock went off.  I don't think I even hit REM sleep since I only went to bed three hours prior... Yuck! Anyway, off to Atlanta we went. That was nice and uneventful, then the fun started.  Gate to gate to lunch ($30 for 2) to gate again, and finally we're ON! Yay, except we were told to "take any empty seats" I hate that.  Judy found a seat, Lynne found a seat and Bubba and I were staring into a sea of unfriendly faces and seeing only one empty seat. Really? So the flight attendant and agent called us forward, I thought we were ...
