The ring of Kerry

Yes, we spent another day in the car.  Today we drove the Ring of Kerry and saw all the sites we could fit into a very long day.  It's a good thing Tracey likes to drive!  We started at the Kerry bog village and saw a couple of very old Irish wolfhounds, some ponies and some chickens.  The story of the people during the famine is interesting too. The sightseeing was different since we were in a cloud embankment, but it gave a kind of peaceful and eerie feel to the day. We stopped at one of the road side stores that had a heritage trail, it was very interesting.  A transatlantic cable was run from that town across the Atlantic to connect half the world in the 1800's.  It's amazing how far technology has come.  We even stopped at a bakery and had chocolate chip cookies before returning to Killarney for supper and bed.  Another great day.

Still half a trip to go

I was exhausted last night, so I didn't have a chance to write. We went to El Yunque rainforrest. It was a lot of fun. We stopped at the visitor center, it's interesting, it has clean bathrooms, it's $4 a person, but it is not mandatory to stop here. They will give you some pointers as to what to see, there's also a movie and gift shop, but you could just drive up 191 on your own and not have to pay. We parked and hiked to the Mina Falls. It's a long, hot hike. Lots of stairs and the path is uneven and slippery in spots. The falls was nice and you can swim there, but remember you have to climb back out. It was very crowded. I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend. From there we drove the hour back to Dorado, got take out and I fell asleep. Today we drove about two hours west to Step Beach. Our last day in Dorado before flying

Bill was leaving at night, so we decided to stay at the resort for the day. There is a nice beach and we started there. The water was warm enough and there was plenty of shade and chairs. There's a small part off to the right that is more sheltered and has some rocks. We decided to snorkel there, and what a good decision. There were plenty of fish, a lobster and even a very cool crab. It was a lot of fun. There are a LOT of black spiny urchins, so you really have to be careful where you step. We ate at the restaurant at the resort, and that was really good too. All good things must come to an end, so we had to bring Bill to the airport. It was about a 45 minute drive with plenty of traffic, but we got there and got him through the check point. We even remembered the USDA check point. We were leaving the next day, so we went back to pack. Next morning it was off to EZ to return the car. Puerto Rico, here we come!

I don't remeber exactly why we picked Puerto Rico for this trip, but so far it was a good choice. We got on the first flights we tried, we fly standby with my job, and got here in time for lunch Saturday afternoon. The one disapointment we've run into was with the car rental. We rented from EZ, which we do frequently in Florida, but this was horrible. We waited over 1/2 an hour for the shuttle bus, even though the office was under 10 minutes away, then in the office it took over two hours to get through the line. It didn't even look very busy. On top of all that we were bullied into taking the transponder for the tolls which was another $50. The agent told us that if we didn't activate it and even if we paid the tolls in cash we would still get billed for using the toll booth and at that point it would be at least $50 for each infraction! Really??? It sounded like a BS story to me, but we took it anyway. I have to send a nasty-gram to EZ to let them know how ...
