Back to Orlando again

Maybe this is a trend.  It's rainy and dark when we get up on an off day, and we hop a plane to sunny Florida.  I guess it's not a bad trend.  The Roots are playing at Universal tonight, so that's our plan.... If we stay awake that long. Home at midnight and up at 5 for a flight makes a very long day. I heard there is a Northface outlet at the mall on I drive, so we might check that out tonight too, again we'll see if we are still awake. The plan is to come back tomorrow morning and relieve Tracey of the crazy dogs... I wonder if she got any sleep last night. Let's see, one can whine and sing for hours when she is in the mood, and the other one likes to take over the whole bed and build her nest in the middle. It can make sleep fleeting to say the least.
After a very long day, we did make it home.  It's great working for an airline, but sometimes it can be a little trying when flights fill up and a 2 1/2 hour flight turns into about 8 hours and involves a taxi.  It's still worth it! How many other people can take a 1500 mile day trip?

Shipshewana, IN

Today we went to the Amish town of Shipshewana. It always seems odd to see horse drawn black buggies driving along the streets with all the cars and trucks. The town has a small central area that is full of shops. You could buy a quilt in any color of the rainbow, and some of them do have all the colors. They are kind of pricey, but if you think about how much energy it must take to make such an intricate work of art without electricity, can be just mind boggling. Furniture is another big one here, but it won't fit under the seat on the airplane. Today was Len's 70th birthday. Happy birthday Len! It's hard to believe I have a 70 year old brother! Well, we're leaving tomorrow, so it's off to bed....

Barbados

Again we started the day not really knowing what we wanted to do, but we had read about George Washington's House and thought that might be interesting. We went out for the day with Judy and Ben and got our own taxi tour.  It was nice that it was just the four of us, but the driver/tour guide was hard to understand.  He tried his hardest though.  It was $25 each and we ended at Washington's house.  It was a nice take.  He lived on Barbados for a few months when he was 19 and was trying to find a cure for his older 1/2 brother's TB. There are tunnels underneath the compound that were installed long after Washington's stay.  They were built for drainage and only rediscovered 5 years ago. It was an interesting tour.  Today is our last day and it's a day at sea.  I'm tired and I miss my dogs, but it's snowing right now at home, so I guess 80 degree weather is pretty nice. Let's see if we get on a plane tomorrow.

Puerto Rico, here we come!

I don't remeber exactly why we picked Puerto Rico for this trip, but so far it was a good choice. We got on the first flights we tried, we fly standby with my job, and got here in time for lunch Saturday afternoon. The one disapointment we've run into was with the car rental. We rented from EZ, which we do frequently in Florida, but this was horrible. We waited over 1/2 an hour for the shuttle bus, even though the office was under 10 minutes away, then in the office it took over two hours to get through the line. It didn't even look very busy. On top of all that we were bullied into taking the transponder for the tolls which was another $50. The agent told us that if we didn't activate it and even if we paid the tolls in cash we would still get billed for using the toll booth and at that point it would be at least $50 for each infraction! Really??? It sounded like a BS story to me, but we took it anyway. I have to send a nasty-gram to EZ to let them know how ...
