Niagra Falls

Image
Yes, we took another over night trip. This time we are in Niagra Falls. There's a new nonstop flight from Boston to Toronto and we figured before it got popular we decided to try it. In Toronto we rented a car from Budget and drove over here, well, after getting just a title bit lost, turning ourselves back around, and then we drove over here. It is beautiful, it is also cold! The hotel we are in (radisson) has a waterfalls view, so I don't have to go out in the cold too much. Everything is super expensive here, like $18 for a burger at Friday's... Yuck! Well, actually it tasted good but who wants to spend that on a burger. They light up the falls at night, so they keep changing from pinks and blues to yellows and greens to rainbow colors. It is pretty even if it's a little tacky. We got up way too early today, so I think it's time to go to bed. We can sleep tomorrow thiough, we have a 1pm check out.

Orlando

Ok, so we're sitting by the pool at the Best Western Plus in Orlando. What a great location. We are very close to Wet and Wild (not that we've gone there in years, but I'm just saying) and just down the street from Universal. No, I wouldn't want to walk there, but I think there is a shuttle. We always rent a car anyway. The place is clean, the pool is nice and there are a couple of hot tubs, nice way to spend a Sunday. We're here because we are going to the Halloween thing at universal.. It should serve to be a frightful night. More on that later. We ate at a great Mexican restaurant, AgaveAzul... Yummy! Now we have another good place to eat.

Nantucket

Image
Ok, so I haven't gotten through the whole trip from a couple of weeks ago, but we went to Nantucket today, and I wanted to reflect on the day. We had a lot of fun! We had to get up waaaaay too early, because the boat on Hy-line was at 9:20 in Hyannis, so we had to leave our house by 7 am to get there. The trip over was pretty uneventful, the weather was warm and sunny, actually in the 80's in October, I guess we can't get any better than that! We walked around the town for a little bit, then paid too much for sandwiches at Brothers of Thieves (I think that's the name,) but they were good, and the nachos were awesome. From there we walked over to the coast guard station and hung out on the beach by the lighthouse for a little while. The weather was spectacular! We couldn't have asked for anything better. We were tired from having to get up too early, but it was a great day! I think we will try the steamship authority if we go back next summer.

Koper, slovenia

Ok, so I didn't have a lot of wifi on the trip, so I have to update this whole thing now that I'm home. The first day in port was in Koper, Slovenia. We went on a great private tour through four seasons travel, www.bledholidays.com, the tour guide's name is Graeme Chuter. He is a great tour guide. He's English, so there were no issues with an accent, well except for the differences between the two countries. He took us to the country's capital, Ljubljana, it's a quaint and pretty city. I could have wandered around for hours. It's very clean and seems very safe. the whole country has only been independent for 20 years. they used to be part of Yugoslavia until "91 when they won their independence. so the same year they got their independence, Bubba lost his by marrying me (LOL.) From there we went to Bled Castle and Bled Lake. It was beautiful! We took an optional trip to have lunch in an alpine village. It reminded me so much of being in A...

Italy

Ok, so here we are on vacation again. We have been traveling for the past 22 and 1/2 hours, and I'm very sleepy, and maybe a little punchy too. We flew through Atlanta to Milan, then took a bus (5 euros each) to the train station and took the train (17 euros each) from there for another 3 hours. We are now in Venice, or at least the outskirts of it. We're at the accor all season, and it is very clean and modern. They give us an industry rate, so the price was under 100 euros for the night. They also have a shuttle bus to the cruise terminal for 40 euros up to 8 people, not a bad deal. I can't wait to explore at least a little bit of the city before the sun goes down or I turn into a pumpkin. I'm going to try to get some pictures into this thing a little later, so we'll see how that works..... Ok, nap time....

Red Butte Garden

Image
Well, we are home now, but yesterday we spent the day at the red butte garden. It is beautiful! the formal gardens are landscaped wonderfully. Not all the flowers were in bloom, but it was still beautiful. We followed Zeke's mountain trail along the side of the mountain... not something I would have done if I thought about it, but I don't regret a minute of it. We should have brought some water with us (we're such city people ~ I think we were secretly looking for the escalator to take us back down!) It was very peaceful and relaxing. That does sound strange considering how much we walked! We watched some crazy people biking on a trail up another ridge and thought of Jimmy Mahan..... would he be crazy enough to do that? When we left, we were starved and asked at the desk where to find good Mexican food. They sent us to the Red Iguana -- can we say YUMMY! Both dishes we got were absolutely delicious and the staff was overly friendly. My meal was so big it definite...

antelope island

Image
Today was just beautiful... well, if we could forget about all the bugs! We drove over to Antelope Island which is in the Great Salt Lake. It's an absolutely beautiful place. There are free roaming buffalo, mule deer, antelope, sheep and goats. We didn't see any sheep or goats, but we did see the other three. Seeing a buffalo just strolling around in the open is a strange site when you live in a city, but to put it into perspective, Bubba talked to a couple where we stopped and they said all their neighbors raise buffalo, so they weren't really impressed... weird, huh?? It was a great day, even the little bit of rain we got helped to get rid of the bugs for a few minutes. The bugs were bad enough that we stopped getting out of the car and started taking pictures from the windows. I would yell "ready" and Bubba would roll down my window and then quickly roll it up again before all the bugs got in.... Yuck! Good thing it was so pretty.

SL, UT

We saw that on a t-shirt today and thought it was kind of cute! Well, we made it to Utah today. We had to get up waaaay too early, but I guess it was worth it to be away for a few days. The sun was actually out here for most of the day. We got out of the car about an hour ago to check out the state capitol, and the sky opened up. Oh well, we're both tired anyway. We drove by the stadium where the U2 show is going to be, and we saw part of the stage being put together. Man, I hope it doesn't rain. I think I brought all the warm clothes in my closet because I'm so afraid of being cold. We might go to some caves tomorrow. We'll see what the weather brings.
